Career
Jaap Paauwe (PhD, Erasmus University Rotterdam) is Professor of Human Resource Studies at Tilburg University. Before joining Tilburg he worked as a full professor of Organization at Erasmus University Rotterdam, heading the Department of Business and Organization of the School of Economics. At Erasmus University he is still involved in supervising PhD students.
He has written and co-authored books on human resource management and many articles. In 1991 he was Academic Visitor at the London School of Economics. In 1996 he was Visiting Professor at Templeton College, Oxford University. Before joining the university he worked for the trade union movement (Head of CNV Research Department 1983-1988) and a Dutch based multinational company (SHV 1980-1983). His main research interests are in the area of HRM, corporate strategy, organizational change and industrial relations. Next to teaching in the business economics programs and the international business administration program, he is acting as a lecturer/trainer for the Rotterdam School of Management/HJR Leadership Program, Cranfield School of Management/MBA program and Academy of Management Groningen. In 2005 he joined Cornell University (USA) as a visiting fellow and was involved in the teaching and research activities of CAHRS (Centre for Advanced Human Resource Studies)

- Moderator of the Sociale Kring: a group of leading board members and high ranking officials in the area of social economic policy, industrial relations and HRM, which meet regularly to discuss trends and issues in the related areas of social-economic policy, collective bargaining, social security/government policies and HRM
- Moderator of the Club of 11: a group of 10 HR directors of the largest companies in the Netherlands among which ABN/AMRO, Shell, Royal Dutch Telecom, National Railways, Akzo/Nobel, DSM, Ahold, Unilever, Corus Steel Mills, who meet on an informal basis to discuss issues and exchange views on social-economic policies, collective bargaining trends an HRM.
- People Management Center: A recent initiative by the Department of HR-studies in order to bridge the gap between Academics and Practitioners with the following aims: funding/sponsoring of research, internships for students, opening up access for research, exchange of information, getting input/reflection from practitioners on our research and teaching program. More specifically companies can become a member/sponsor by paying an amount per year, which will entitle them to a range of services and which also implies that they are willing to cooperate in all kind of research projects. The centre has started in 2007 and is aiming for 5 top ranking companies to become member in the coming two years.
