Education

In 1981 I finished my Atheneum B education (European High School) and started my technical studies (Management Sciences) at the Technical University of Eindhoven. In 1983 I was so fascinated with thinking about the science that underpinned much of what I learned at the Technical University that I began studying Philosophy at Nijmegen University. I got my MA in Philosophy (cum laude) in 1989.

From 1990 to 1992 I was a PhD student at Nijmegen University, in the department of General Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Language and Logic. During this period I worked on the problem of scientific realism. (I also developed and taught philosophy of science courses in the Faculty of Arts). I finished my PhD thesis (1994) on the problem of scientific realism at Nijmegen University with prof. dr. Ton Derksen as my supervisor. While writing my PhD I was invited to apply for a tenure track lecturer Philosophy of Science and Epistemology at Tilburg University. My present position is that of a tenured associate professor at Tilburg University.

From January till July 2001 I was a visiting scholar at Cambridge University (Department of History and Philosophy of Science), with prof. dr. Peter Lipton as my sponsor. In 2004 I was a Guest Lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Antwerp, and in 2007 I was visiting fellow at Princeton University, with prof. em. dr. Bas van Fraassen as my sponsor.

Throughout the years I have taught many courses to many different groups of students (to both philosophy and non-philosophy students), at Nijmegen, Tilburg and Antwerp University. I am currently the Head of Education at the Department of Philosophy at Tilburg University.
