My research concerns the question whether philosophical scepticism can be adequately solved by epistemological contextualism. It does so by enquiring whether formal approaches of epistemology, in particular epistemic logic, can be beneficial to the theory of epistemological contextualism, and to analytic epistemology in general. The contextualism/scepticism-debate is particularly suited for such an enquiry since it already hints at bits of formal logic in its discussions. Most important, contextualism seems to be especially suited for a translation into the possible world-semantics of epistemic logic. Therefore, my research will involve a comparison of epistemological contextualism and epistemic logic, a study of potential benefits of one over the other, and whether epistemic logic can solve the problems which contextualism cannot overcome on its own.
