Hello Malaysia!
Marketing management student Martin Lagerberg (24) is in Johor Bahru, Malaysia for an Aiesec traineeship.
What is the main difference on the work floor?
"Malaysians don't have a routine and lack planning. An example: my boss invited me to go to Kuala Lumpur 'tomorrow'; in the end he went there two days later and without me. They also lack efficiency. Once we went with four employees to an electronics shop. I thought we would probably have to do some important purchases. However, in the end they only needed a simple switch. It took us all about two hours! So people are quite relaxed, but also flexible and make long working days if necessary."
So what do you do on your internship?
"I work for a company that makes aerial photos - a bit like google maps. My function is mainly marketing and business development."
What do you do besides work?
"I live with other foreign interns, so we have a lot of fun together discovering the Malaysian culture. And of course during the weekends we take a lot of trips!" [Marlin de Bresser]
