Course information
Four weeks course exclusively for international students with a deficit in statistics entering a Master's programme at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The course covers the topics taught in the pre-Master's/ second Bachelor's year.

Admission
All (Research) Master¿s programmes at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences maintain a strong emphasis on research methods and statistics. For that reason it is of great importance that candidates starting a Master¿s programme at this faculty have a solid background in these topics. International candidates who meet all the requirements in order to be accepted to the Master¿s programme but lack a sufficient background in methodology and statistics will be invited by Tilburg University to attend the Summer School course in Methodology and Statistics. Having successfully completed this course (i.e. having passed the course with a sufficient grade) is a prerequisite for concluding the Master's programme and receiving the Master's diploma.

Students can not apply for participation in this course, but should be invited by the Admission Committee.

More information

  • The first week covers topics on social science research methodology.
  • The second and third week covers topics on regression analysis and analysis of variance.
  • The final week will cover topics on test construction.
What should you do at home before entering the course?
We expect you to be familiar with descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing. These topics will not be taught in this course but are vital for comprehending the techniques covered in the Summerschool course. Therefore it is very important for you to study the first nine chapters of the book by Agresti and Franklin at home.
If you have any questions regarding this course, you can contact Luc van Baest by email: Luc van Baest.
