Humanities collection

The Humanities Collection consists of the subcollections Philosophy, Language and literature,Theology and Religious Studies and Liberal Arts.

On this page you find information on the various collection items: (digital) books, journals, databases, Master's theses, mandatory literature and language tools. Information on special collection parts for Theology are to the left in the menu.


Books
The book collections of Humanities: Philosophy (CIF), Theology and Religious Studies (TFL), Language and Literature (LET) and Liberal Arts (LA) are located at level 2 of the library. The older part of the collections is in the closed depot (CBM) at level 0.

The general indication for books from these collections is respectively CIF, TFL, LET and LA. The books are arranged in subject categories:

A list with new books per collection is published each month to which you can subscribe.

The location of books can be retrieved in the Catalogue Tilburg University. You can also retrieve books from the Central Book Depot in the Catalogue via a depot request.

E-books
The library is currently testing the offer of e-books (digital books). For the time being they are mainly student textbooks and encyclopaedias. The titles are listed in the Catalogue Tilburg University.

Printed journals
The location of printed journals is as follows:
  • At level 1 you find the most recent issues of the journals per collection in displays in alphabetical order.
  • The last 5 years of the bound journal issues are at level 1, but then arranged on journal number (T-number).
  • The TF journals have the indication T TF (T-TF-number).
  • Older journals are in the closed stacks (CBM). You can request them via a depot request and collect for inspection at the LIS Service Desk
Via the Journal catalogue UvT you can look for a journal's location (the T-number). Journals are not for loan.

E-journals
A large number of journals is digitally available full text. In the Journal catalogue UvT you can see whether a journal is digitally available.

For a survey of journals per field of study you can use the journal portals of the various publishers. More information

You can use the various information databases to look for articles in journals or books. More information

Databases
Via the databases you find information you often do not find via Google or other search engines. The central starting point for the databases is the page Catalogues and databases. Via Survey per subject you enter the databases for Humanities.

Master's thesis
Bachelor and Master's theses of Tilburg University students are included in the collection (as of 2007 only online). The location of the URL can be retrieved in the Thesis database or (TF-theses befóre 2007) in the Catalogue UvT.

Student library
The student library (SB) consists of mandatory and recommended literature of the study program. The student library is located in the sections CIF SB and LET SB at level 1 (with the other SB-collections). Books from the student library are not available for loan.

Language tools
Part of the Language collection is a collection of tools for children and adults to learn Dutch as a second or foreign language. These tools are located in the section LET LM2 NEDE. This material is not available for loan.
