What is a European Documentation Centre?
European Documentation Centres (EDCs) have been founded to stimulate education and research in the field of European integration. EDCs are for the most part located in universities. They receive and collect information from and on the European Union (EU) and make itavailable. The EDC of Tilburg University has a general character and contains publications in following fields:
- economic and monetary issues
- industrial policy
- internal market
- education and culture
- regional development and politics
- social development
- transport
- employment and labour issues
- law
- energy
- environment
Where to find websites and databases?
The information offer from and on the European Union on the Internet is very extensive. Use a survey of selected websites and databases to find relevant information faster:
- EU-information by theme: websites and databases
e.g. starting points, economic and social issues, instructions, jurisprudence, literature and statistics - websites and publications from EU-organizations
Survey of the organizations with reference to the websites and the most important publication from the concerning organization
Where to find publications?
EU publications are ever more digitally available since the arrival of the Internet. Printed (older) publications from and on the EU, such as books, reports, journals and statistics can be found via the UvT catalogue.
An important information source is found in the official documents published by institutions and organizations of the EU, such as the Publication Paper, the Jurisprudence of the Court of Justice and parliamentary records. For most of these documents goes that they are available in digital shape as from about 1997/1998. Older documents can be found in the library on paper, microfiche or CD ROM. The table below gives a survey of the sites of important official documents.
