Reasoning and Decision Making

18-21 November 2008
Tilburg University, The Netherlands

The Tilburg part of the Graduate School focuses on the psychology of human reasoning and argumentation. Michiel van Lambalgen examines various kinds of non-monotonic reasoning while Michael Pauen focuses on the role of reasons and emotions in decision-making. Ulrike Hahn investigates how humans preceive randomness and J. D. Trout, in a series of three lectures, discusses the impacts of psychological evidence on knowledge and (self-)understanding. In total, the Tilburg week tackles well-known problems in epistemology, philosophy of mind, and decision theory from a perspective that is well aware of recent psychological findings.
