A next edition of the Catholic tradition

At the global meeting of "Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church" (www.catholicethics.com) which brought about 600 moral theologians to Trento from July 24 until July 27, 2010, dr. Jan Jans participated with a poster presentation called 'A next edition of the Catholic tradition' - How the dynamics within moral theology can contribute to intercultural ethics. The poster was well received and will in the near future also be published at the website of CTEWC.


Master class on Islam and violence

From 8 to 18 June, Prof. Khaled Abou El Fadl from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) conducted an intensive master class for Master's students from Tilburg University and from other universities in the Netherlands. His master class was entitled:

Muslims and the authority crisis in Islam: how to deal with fundamentalism, radicalism, violence and terror

Think again, interculturally

Master class on intercultural ethics

From 5 till 7 november 2008, the Centre for Intercultural Ethics organised a master class for ethicists on PhD or postdoc level. The aim of this master class, entitled 'Think again, interculturally', was to rethink some current ethical issues from a specific intercultural perspective.

Keynote speakers and masters were professor Gavin D'Costa (Bristol University, UK) and professor Walter Lesch (Louvain la Neuve, Belgium).

Seminar Turkey and the European Union

On september 28, 2007 the Soeterbeeck Programme of Radboud University Nijmegen and the Centre for Intercultural Ethics organized an expert seminar:

Turkey and the European Union. The Value of Accession: Cultural-Religious, Concerning Human Rights, and Strategic.

DalitThe last apartheid!

Yesumarian Lourdunathan A guest lecture with film and debate about the dalits, the casteless of today's India, with 'hands on' expert Lourdunathan Yesumarian: dalit, priest and lawyer. This lecture took place Friday, October 5th, 08.45am until 10.30am. Organisation: Centre for Intercultural Ethics.

Sharia in Europe

On May 3 the Centre for Intercultural Ethics, in association with Studium Generale, organised a study meeting Sharia in Europe in the Black Box, Esplanade Building.
Speakers were Maysam Al-Faruqi, Emilio Platti and Cees Maris.
Master class by Prof. Maysam Al-Faruqi

Maysam Al-Faruqi Maysam J. Al-Faruqi, professor of Islamic Studies at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., has been appointed as visiting professor to the chair for intercultural theology in the Department of Religious Studies in 2007. This spring, Prof. Al-Faruqi taught a MA-course (6 ECTS), entitled 'The Political Ethics of Islam'.
