BSc Psychology

Programme description
In the first and second year of the bachelor the program consists of basic courses in different areas of psychology, like:
  • Social psychology, about the psychological relations between people; how do people behave in a relation, group or organization?
  • Psychology of personality, about characteristics that are typical for individuals; why does a person act cheerfully and is another gloomy?
  • Developmental psychology, about the changes in human behaviour between birth and death; the emphasis is on the development of children and adolescents. Besides these basic courses students will get a thorough introduction in statistics and research methods.
In the second half of the second year students choose one out of two main subjects (majors): Psychology and Health, or Psychology and Society. Within the major P&H the focus is upon: clinical health psychology, developmental psychology and cognitive neuropsychology. The major P&M consist of courses in the areas of social and economic psychology, cultural psychology and social and organizational psychology.
In the third year of the bachelor students continue to follow courses of their major. Next to these, they do a research project (group work) and write an individual bachelor thesis, based upon an empirical research study or literature search. After finishing the bachelor students can continue in several master programs:
  • Master of Psychology and Mental Health
  • Master of Social Psychology (with tracks in the areas of "economic behaviour" or "organizational behaviour")
  • Two-year Master of Medical Psychology (still subject to governmental decisions, to start in 2006)
  • Two-year Master of Research
