Harry Huizinga
Harry Huizinga is professor of International Economics in the Department of Economics at Tilburg University since 1992. He received an A.B. in economics from Princeton University in 1984 and a PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1988. Prior to coming to Tilburg, he was assistant professor of economics at Stanford University from 1998 - 1992. He held the position of Economic Advisor in the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission in the period 2000-2003.Harry Huizinga's has published widely in the area of banking covering such topics as factors explaining international differences in interest rate spreads, deposit insurance and market discipline, and the VAT of the financial services. A current research project covers the impact of the role of fee-generating activities and banking funding patterns in explaining banking firm stability. Outside the area of banking, Harry Huizinga has been active in public finance covering topics such as the impact of taxation the capital structure of multinational firms.
Harry Huizinga has on several occasions been a visiting scholar to the IMF and a consultant to the OECD and the World Bank.
