Final Objectives


The objectives of the BSc Econometrics and Operations Research can be summarised in the following aims regarding knowledge, skills and attitude:

Requirements concerning Knowledge

Students who have finished the BSc programme in Econometrics & OR have:

  • basic knowledge of economics, particularly concerning the fields that require a quantitative (model) approach;
  • basic knowledge of mathematics (notably analysis, algebra, probability theory, statistics and decision making in hypothesis tests) to be able to develop and analyse economic models;
  • basic knowledge of the disciplines of the three Master's programmes in Econometrics & OR at Tilburg University and their application.

    Requirements concerning Skills

    Students who have finished the BSc programme in Econometrics & OR are able to:

  • follow and apply a strictly model-oriented working method;
  • use relevant computer software and familiarise themselves with new programmes;
  • write and present assignments and articles in English;
  • apply their knowledge in the field of Econometrics & OR to practical economic problems in real-life business situations;
  • read and understand the scientific literature in the field of Econometrics & OR and do scientific research.

    Requirements concerning Attitude

    Students who have finished the BSc programme in Econometrics & OR have the ability to:

  • study and solve practical or scientific problems from an academic, quantitatively-oriented approach, always being open to different opinions;
  • take on new challenges and motivate others with their enthusiasm;
  • reflect critically on their own and other people's work, paying attention to both logical coherence (with the attitude of a mathematician) and economical relevance (from the viewpoint of an economist).
